Title: A concept of distributed load modulation for the supply of Frequency-Controlled Reserves to the Transmission System Operator
Abstract:
How to guarantee the power system reliability, face to the undergoing switch from flexible bulk generation to mostly stochastic distributed power generation assets?
The panel of solutions targeted by this PhD to answer this question, come actually from a famous combination of the undergoing deregulation of the European power markets, with the penetration of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) among the Power System. ICT enables progressively the both observability and automation of Power System assets.
Meantime most of domestic, tertiary or industrial load controllers can be easily connected to the Web. Such evolution enables the end-user to switch from the status of passive consumer to the status of active contributor to the system reliability, by providing Demand Response services to the Utilities.
The main achievements lead first to a business analysis regarding the benefit for the domestic end user of Real Time Price. It leads then to the development of voltage regulation concept in the distribution grids based on Demand Response services. It leads then to the implementation of a concept of distributed load modulation for the supply of Frequency-Controlled Reserves to the Transmission System Operator.
