Skills

The Grenoble Electrical Engineering Laboratory covers the whole spectrum of the electrical engineering science, from materials to systems, from processes to actuators, from micro systems to large power systems, from production to usage of electrical power.
Throughout its history, G2Elab has been driven by simple guidelines: expand its expertize, capitalize on its research, develop new concepts and transfer knowledge to companies, relying on an intimate knowledge of materials and a proven cability to model and simulate devices of Electrical Engineering. It activities are focussed in the areas of power grids, power electronics, electric actuators, electrostatic processes and micro systems .

The research activities of laboratory covers 4 major themes:
  • Energy
Energy efficiency and energy management, power electronics, systems, management of power in hybrid or electric vehicle, new grid architectures, management of energy in micro systems ...
  • Innovative Systems and Processes
µsystems, electrostatic, magnetic or superconducting processes and devices
  • Materials for Energy
dielectric, magnetic, superconducting materials, durability, ionized media
  • Modeling and Design
Multi physics modeling, optimal sizing, capitalization of knowledge

Fields of application

With a strong base of knowledge and basic research in a variety of fields (modeling, design, electrical and electronic systems and components, materials, technologies, ...), and a long tradition of research partnerships, G2Elab develops many research projects with perspectives and applications in the socio-economic " aval " field.
This close relationship with the economic actors constitutes a source of always-renewed challenges, which induces in its turn a permanent evolution of the research topics of the laboratory. Structured in disciplinary teams capable of capitalizing on knowledge and pooling their know-how, G2Elab is able to develop research that concerns very diverse areas of economic activity, including :
  • Electrical energy transport
Networks, power quality, critical infrastructures, power quality, high voltage applications
  • Energy conversion and storage
Transformers, power converters, machines, storage, superconducting generators
  • Transportation
Electric vehicles, electric devices, aircraft, trains and tramways
  • Building
Low energy building, energy management
  • Naval
